8 Quick Fixes to Cure the January Blues

With an abundance of Christmas parties, catch ups with friends and time off work in December, it isn’t surprising that for many of us, January can be less than appealing. In fact, Monday 20th January is hailed as blue Monday – the most depressing day of the year. *Sigh*. Here at Bellamianta, we want to do whatever we can to pick our Bella Babes up. If your mood is less than a sunny disposition this January, we have compiled our 8 favourite quick fixes to help cure the January blues.
1. Switch Off
While of course, we’re big advocators for the positives of social media, sometimes it can be easy to forget that people only post the good stuff. If that friend’s ski trip or weekend away has you green with envy, step away from the phone. January is the perfect time to enjoy a little detox. Why not try leaving your phone in another room and mindfully watching a film?!
2. Book a Trip
We can confirm that booking a trip is an instant way to put an end to the January blues! Having a trip or holiday lined up will instantly boost your mood and give you something to look forward to.
3. Declutter your life
With little happening in January, it’s the perfect time to declutter your home, Marie Kondo style. Start with one room in your house and toss, sell or donate to charity, anything which doesn’t ‘spark joy’. Only hold onto items which are practical or which you love. This gives us the opportunity to appreciate what we have a bit better.
4. Go Outside
Sometimes, the best way to clear that head fog is to get outdoors and embrace the fresh air. Take the dog for a walk, visit your local beach or organize a hike with friends and appreciate the beauty of the great outdoors.
5. Exercise
By now, those new year resolutions might be starting to falter. While we are advocators of going to the gym and working out, if that isn’t your swag, try something else. Whether it’s trying yoga for the first time, or joining a class that you like the sound of, the key is to find something you actually enjoy doing so it feels less like work and a lot more like fun.
6. Shake up your beauty routine
With plenty of time on your hands, we fully recommend shaking up your beauty routine this January. Our favourite tasks include popping on a long overdue face mask, testing a new shade of lippy and trying out the latest YouTube makeup tutorial.
7. Relax and enjoy it
Sometimes, just accepting that January is a rubbish month, relaxing and going with the flow is the best attitude to have. Not much happens in January so FOMO won’t be a problem. Take comfort in relaxing nights in and Netflix binges and know that February will bring a lot more excitement your way.
We don’t know about you, but one of the things that instantly lifts our moods, is indulging in a little self care, and unsurprisingly, our absolute favourite thing to do is to get a gorgeous golden glow. Because after all, life always feels better when we have a tan.
Let’s turn those January blues golden!
