WOW! What a start to the year it’s been. As the official tan partner of RTE’s Dancing with the Stars Ireland, it’s safe to say that here at Bellamianta we are having the time of our lives. One of the things we love the most about working on this amazing show, is the close-knit community backstage. We’re privileged to work with some of the best hair and make-up artists in the business and we’ve been learning plenty of tricks of the trade, as well as bringing that gorgeous golden glow to your screens each week.
There’s no denying that the buzz backstage is electric. We know that all you #BellaBabes love seeing what goes on behind the scenes and today we’re offering you an insight into just that! We recently caught up with extraordinary make-up artist, Mary Drummond, who works to create winning looks for the stars each week.
Here, she shares secrets, style tips and trends so that you can create your own celebrity-inspired look at home.
Mary, what do you love the most about working at Dancing with the Stars Ireland?
Dancing with the Stars Ireland is such a wonderful show to work on. The make-up looks are different every week and always very glamorous. This allows me to play with lots of glitter and pigments to complement the colourful costumes. As a make-up artist, a nice soft, fresh make-up look is requested by clients while stronger looks usually only appear at Christmas or Halloween so it's really great fun to be able to play with vibrant colours and textures.
The celebrities have a killer glow thanks to Bellamianta Luxury Tanning. How do you complement that glow with make-up?
When the celebrities and dancers sit in my chair their hair is set and they have a lovely Bellamianta Luxury Tan base on, which is essential to show off the costumes in all their glory. It is very important to blend foundation with chest colour and to ask how high or low the costume goes. I keep my own kit of Bellamianta products to help with any blending or deepening of colour on the body. Some of the dresses can be very low cut or some of the male dancers may be wearing just a waistcoat and need their upper body a deeper shade. For celebrities like Demi Isaac Oviawe, the Bellamianta Dry Shimmer Body Oil is perfect for her beautiful legs. With such a lovely tanned glow the make-up can then be lifted with beautiful highlighters on the face, collar bone and décolletage. And a touch of glitter on the lips and eyes can be beautiful and really dazzle under the bright studio lights.
What are your must-have 3 beauty products?
My must-have beauty products? Firstly, no product looks good sitting on dead flaky skin so a good weekly scrub is essential for the body. The Bellamianta Triple Action Glycolic Scrub is perfect for this as it softens and moisturises, while acting to gently exfoliate the skin. A gentle, weekly peel on the face and neck will compliment this ritual and have you glowing in no time.
Secondly, I feel I can look unwell without a gentle tan base on my face and neck. I always look healthier and use less foundation or none at all. Always use one specifically for the face like Bellamianta Tinted Lotion for face and body.
Thirdly, I cannot live without my lip balm. I keep some everywhere; in the car, bedside table, kitchen. This is also the most asked for product during the live shows on Dancing with the Stars Ireland as nerves can definitely lead to dry lips.
Which Bellamianta Tan can’t you live without?
My favourite Bellamianta product is the Rapid Self Tanning Mousse. This is my go-to product on a Thursday night to get me ready for the weekend. It's quick and easy to use and can be topped up again on a Saturday night to maintain my colour for Sunday's show.
Tell us about our new Flawless Filter Body Makeup! What do you love about it?
For clients and dancers on the show, the new Bellamianta Flawless Filter Body Make Up is essential in my kit. It is an instant flawless tan that goes on like a cream and dries to a beautiful finish that blurs imperfections. I love that it doesn't budge once applied and can withstand the sexiest salsa with no transfer or streaking. Just ask the dancers!
What look have you loved creating the most, so far?
My favourite look so far on season three of Dancing with the Stars Ireland has been Holly Carpenters 80's disco look for her first dance. It had everything. High bouncy hair (with glitter, of course) a lovely deep Bellamianta Spray Tan and lovely strong eye make-up with big lashes. Just fabulous.
Which beauty trends are set to be huge this year?
I'm delighted to see more colours coming back into eye make-up. Blues, greens and purples are featuring again on popular brand palettes. This compliments the more 70's influenced hair styles and glowing fresh skin that is so lovely to see. Colour used correctly on the eyes can be transforming and a nice change from the safe, comfortable neutrals we all love.
