What is DHA?

DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) is the active ingredient in self-tanning products. It is a sugar molecule, derived from sugar beets and sugar cane, that reacts to the amino acids on the surface of the skin. The level of DHA controls how dark and natural the colour looks. Bellamianta uses DHA that is carefully formulated to create a natural looking tan. We balance this DHA with moisturisers/fruit extracts to guarantee a smooth, streak-free application and glow.

Is Bellamianta vegan?

Yes it is, our products are vegan friendly. All our products are 100% cruelty free, they are not tested on animals.

Which tan is right for me?

Although every skin type is different, our range of products are tailored to provide a natural looking tan to suit every skin tone, whether you are looking for an instant fix for one night only, a sun- kissed everyday glow, or a golden streak free tan that lasts for days.

• Our Gradual Tanning Moisturiser provides buildable colour that is suitable particularly for fair skin tones.
• Our Medium Self Tanning Tinted Lotion is perfect for getting a natural glow that lasts for several days. Our Skin Perfecting Instant Tan can be used on top to provide flawless coverage or can be used on its own for immediate glow.
• Our Dark Lotion, Rapid Mousse, Ultra Dark Mousse and Clear Rapid Mousse can be used to create a darker, but still natural tan.

What's the difference between tanning lotion and tanning mousse?

Lotion is very hydrating and perfect for dry skin. Mousse is super fast drying on the skin and very easy to apply. So really it’s deciding what best suits your skin type.

How do I carry out a patch test?

Apply a small amount of the self tan product with a cotton bud behind the ear and leave dry for 24hrs. If any contra-actions occur such as redness, swelling, inflammation or itching, avoid using the product as this is a positive reaction for sensitivity. If no reaction occurs then it is fine to proceed with the full body application.

Is Bellamianta suitable for all ages?

Yes our products are safe for all ages and skin types, however we strongly recommend a patch test is carried out at least 24 hours ahead of tanning to check for skin sensitivity, particularly in users under 16 years old.

Will the product streak?

All Bellamianta products guarantee an even coverage, you don’t need to worry about applying too much of the product, only missed bits can give an uneven or patchy finish. We always recommend using one of our Luxury Velvet Tanning Mitts to apply any product to ensure a flawless finish.

 

Application

What should I do before trying Bellamianta for the first time?

We recommend carrying out a patch test 24 hours prior to applying any tanning product for the first time. Apply a small amount of the tan behind the ear and leave for 24 hours. If no reaction occurs then it is fine to proceed with the tan application.

Can Bellamianta be used on the face?

Absolutely! As they contain natural and hydrating ingredients, all Bellamianta products are gentle enough to use on the face. Let it dry in properly for as long as possible before eating/drinking to avoid fading around the mouth.

• TIP- Some people like to mix a small amount of our tan with their daily moisturiser and apply with a buffing brush. 

How long will my Bellamianta tan last?

Your Bellamianta tan should last between 3-5 days, and with good preparation and moisturising it can last even longer. However, everyone's skin naturally exfoliates at a different rate.

How long will it take for my tan to develop?

Most of our tans develop over 2-4+ hours. See individual descriptions in our online shop/on the bottle for recommendations.

For our Rapid and Crystal Clear Formulas, you choose your shade. Leave 2 hours before showering for a light golden tan. 3 hours for a medium tone, and overnight for the darkest results.

How long do I have to wait before showering after applying Bellamianta?

With our medium, dark and ultra dark mousses/lotions we recommend waiting at least 8 hours before showering. With our Rapid & Crystal Clear Formulas you decide the shade. You can shower after 3 hours for a medium tone, and 4+ hours for the darkest results. After showering, pat dry and enjoy a lovely natural glow for 3-5 days.

Will the tan transfer onto my clothes?

All our products are transfer resistant, provided the guide colour has been rinsed off. However our Crystal Clear Rapid Self Tan Mousse and our Self-Tanning Gradual Moisturiser is completely transfer resistant upon application, as it doesn’t contain a guide colour.

When can I apply moisturiser after tanning?

You can apply moisturiser to the skin once the tan has fully developed and the residue has been showered off.

Will I turn orange or go too dark?

Bellamianta is known for its natural golden glow, our luxury blend of tanning agents work to your individual skin tone to deliver a natural finish that will not develop ‘orange’.

How can I get a perfect finish on my hands and feet?

The hands and feet can be tricky! You should really tan these areas last, using only the residue of product left on your tanning mitt. Only tan the top of your feet and hands. Then use a dry cloth to buff the edges of your hands and feet to blend the tan into the non-tanned areas.

Holidays 

How long should I wait before I go into a pool?

Ideally you will have applied your tan, achieved your desired tone and showered away the residue before getting into the pool. Once your tan has developed you can swim but chlorine in pools and sea water could make your tan fade faster.

Can I still get a sun tan through my self tan?

Yes, our tanning products do not include sun protection. It is recommended that you apply products which include SPFs frequently when exposed to sunshine.

Does Bellamianta protect me from U.V. exposure? Can I get sunburnt through my self tan?

No. There are no sun filters in Bellamianta products so it’s very important that you still use a sun protection product with sufficient levels of SPF when exposing your skin to the sun.

Pregnancy/Breast Feeding

As Bellamianta products are clean and non-toxic, it is safe to use them when pregnant. It can also be helpful to do a skin test before self-tanning, as hormone levels can fluctuate throughout pregnancy. If you’re unsure, it’s always best to consult with your doctor before starting your tanning regime.

Additionally do not apply to the breast area if breastfeeding.

 

Skin Sensitivity

I have eczema / psoriasis, is Bellamianta safe to use?

Yes, because our products contain only the cleanest ingredients, enhanced with natural moisturisers making it suitable for all skin types. All our formulas are enriched with Shea Butter and Aloe Vera which help to soothe the skin and offer additional benefits. Our products include Seabuckthorn Oil which is an anti-inflammatory to help reduce inflammation in your skin. We would advise avoiding application of tan to any broken or very irritated skin. 

I have dry skin, what is the best product for me?

We would recommend using a lotion rather than a mousse. Our lotions are enriched with shea butter and aloe vera which through Vitamins A, C and E soothe and restore skin elasticity.
